HERE'S TO THE WEB

While I have written for AssociatedContent.com for years, worked for a student run magazine and have begun to shape my blog into something more than I could have ever imagined, I never felt part of the "in crowd" but that's all changed today! My first post as a freelance writer for SheFinds.com went live this morning. Check it out: What to Buy Your Guy for Valentine's Day!

SheFinds is a website based in New York City [That's right! I do freelance for a fashion website based in New York] and is all about good finds. While it may only be freelance at the moment, it is definitely a huge step in the right direction! Today freelance, tomorrow I'm texting Jim Nelson that I've taken over for him. The great thing is that since it is freelance, I can do it from wherever so while I plot my next move in life, I'm gaining experience along the way. How I heart the world wide web.

PS for some reason Erik Hassle's "All That I Wanted Was You" popped into my head as soon as I went to SheFinds and found my article post.
I'm so obsessed with him.

THROUGH DISTANCE AND TIME
Tom Ford's directorial debut, "A Single Man," is a stunningly beautiful film. I went to see it at the Angelika Film Center & Cafe in New York and left with all sorts of emotions swirling inside. If you have yet to see it or have no idea what I am talking about, please watch this clip below.
That is Colin Firth as George and the stunning Jon Kortajarena as Carlos, a male prostitute. I chose this clip solely because Jon is it and he deserves an Oscar...for his beauty. Anyway, "A Single Man" is centered around George who finds himself dealing with the death of his boyfriend, Jim. Matthew Goode [who I call Mr. Delicious] plays the doomed character of Jim and helps create an incredibly compelling other half for George. The flashback of how they meet is heartbreaking as it is a perfect case of love at first sight.
Drunk Girl: Do you want to buy me a drink?
Jim: I think I'm taken.
*Sigh* It's moments like these that not only make me smile but they also tear me up inside. Will I ever have something like that happen in my life? It was such an extravagantly subtle yet still completely life altering comment.

Julianne Moore plays the tragically dramatic best friend, Charley, and is a scene stealer if I ever saw one.
The movie itself I will say again was beautiful. Colors were enhanced when George was found something stimulating and it took a few times for me to catch on to this. As I walked down the street towards the F train to head Downtown, I realized that "A Single Man" is all about people reaching out in some futile attempt to not be invisible. The idea of being invisible is actually mentioned by Jim and by a male student of George's.

Colin's Oscar nomination is well deserved and just like most of the movie, it is absolutely tragic that Julianne was left out! It was also nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Original Score which is a very valid nomination as well [A Single Man: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack]. The music traps you in the moment by accelerating your breathing and then suddenly forcing you to stop. Two syllables: brilliant.

On a side note, and a heavy one at that, there was this chilling trailer shown during the previews of "A Single Man" and I became downright determined to see it as soon as I could. It's called "Terribly Happy" and was actually released two years ago in the Czech Republic with a limited release in the USA beginning this month.
Looks good, right?!

SUGA MAMA
Natasha Poly is another one of those supreme models that can do no wrong. Her walk is heavenly, her posing to die for. Can we talk about those cheekbones for a moment? No? Too much fierceness? I agree.

She's the diva running the show for Gucci's S/S 2010 ad campaign and this video shows a very sensual Natasha also illustrating just why she is a top model.
I <3 Natasha Poly!

VROOM VROOM

Abbey Lee Kershaw strikes again. This time it is a one minute behind-the-scenes type video for a photoshoot with Pop Magazine. For the nth time, all I can say is sheer faboolicious! She's without a doubt my favorite. Sorry Coco and Chanel!

Models.com asks "Is 2010 the year of Abbey Lee Kershaw?" I say yes! Check out one of the two Pop covers.

PS: a shout out to my dad celebrating his 51st today! He'll never see this but happy bday, Pa!

PUBLISHERS START YOUR ENGINES

It looks like there is some light drama over in the UK between British Vogue and Harper's Bazaar UK!

Cindy Crawford on the March issue for Harper's Bazaar UK and Alexa Chung for British Vogue
It would appear that Vogue believes Bazaar isn't neccassarily lying about their sales but see their methods as a form of cheating.

"Fashion upstart Harper's Bazaar dances with the fishes by offering value packs at U.K. newsstands to bolster sales," wrote Vogue publisher, Stephen Quinn.

I'm all about the love, hugs and smiles...oh, who am I kidding? I can't wait for the claws to extend even further! I love me a good fashion battle.

I THINK UR A CONTRA

Vampire Weekend are a smart, offbeat group led by Ezra's voice. Just a few weeks ago, they scored their first #1 album with "Contra," their sophomore effort released through XL Recordings.

Their sound is African Pop mixed with New York City fashion catwalk similar to another favorite of mine, Friendly Fires. These two bands on tour together would present one intense experience. Check out VW's "Giving Up the Gun." Something about the brief intro is so sexy and the remainder of the song is just a problem. Take a listen.
Vampire Weekend - Giving Up The Gun
I could hear this thumping while models storm down the runway during the Herve Leger show in a few weeks. The song is airy with all sorts of oomph to it. It's one of those standout tracks from an album that will probably go unreleased as a single but still gets fans moving like wild banshees at the live shows. Either way, I am glad VW are experiencing chart success while still maintaining a low-key profile.

WELCOME TO THE BRIGITTE PARADE

Many of those in my generation group first came to know Brigitte Nielsen as one of the many wacky characters of VH1's "The Surreal Life" instead of her career as a model, singer and actress back in the 80s. Well, DANSK Magazine is featuring Brigitte in a high fashion spread; her first in almost two decades! The S/S 2010 issue, featuring cover girl Olga Sherer wearing S/S2010 Versace, is out next week.
“It’s the return of Brigitte Nielsen: the style icon. Brigitte has one of the strongest signature looks of our time and her personality and knowledge of fashion are compelling. It’s not that we wanted to bring Brigitte back in fashion, because she’s never been out of style. We just brought her back to fashion, where she belongs,” commented Uffe Buchard and Kim Grenaa, Editors-in-Chief at DANSK.

Brigitte on shooting with DANSK and doing fashion again:

“I loved being back on a fashion shoot, experiencing the dynamics of the stylist working the photographer and so on. It was like being back in the [Helmut] Newton days. But it’s funny… they retouched a run in the stocking and I thought: ‘Helmut would just have had another run going!’”

Brigitte on Rihanna and other stars copying her:

“At the People’s Choice Awards, Rihanna came up to me and said: ‘Brigitte, can I just be you for one day?’ I’m like, start off bleaching that hair, girl! I always take it as a compliment I’m very proud of what I’ve accomplished. The ideas and trends that we created through the years influenced so many things. When I did the Herb Ritts shot where I’m covered in fishnet, Cindy Crawford saw it and went: ‘That’s what I want to do!’ Then she copied me. We did some shoots that were absolutely beyond, but to become an icon and make a difference you have to take chances.”

Brigitte on her style and what she wears:

“A dress looks different on a person who’s sexual. You become the dress and the dress becomes you. My way of being eccentric shows off in the way I wear a dress, and in my choice of dress. My favourite designer is Azzedine Alaïa. I think I’ve bought more clothes from him any other woman on the planet.”

Brigitte wears Givenchy, Lanvin and Chanel with photography by Jam for DANSK. Oh, B. I always thought she had an over the top personality and it's interesting to see her now doing something that people aren't laughing at.

WANNA BE ON TOP?

Tahnee Atkinson is the adorable Australian teen who won the last season of Australia's Next Top Model, the same series that produced the very successful Alice Burdeu.

I just finished watching her season via YouTube and knew when it got down to the Final 5 that she would no doubt walk away with the prize. She's the kid sister of Miranda Kerr and Abbey Lee Kershaw if they reproduced [don't ask]. What I'm finding surprising are comments on her The Fashion Spot page! Apparently Tahnee flew out to New York but had agents tell her to come back when she has lost a bit of weight. It infuriates me because the girl has a sick body and looks damn good flaunting it!

"It's a real shame designers only choose them. If the clothes are good then they should look good on any size," Tahnee said in an interview. Can we just take a second to take a look at her?

Both images are from a Harper's BAZAAR Australia shoot she did as a result of her win on the show [images courtesy of The Fashion Spot]. I do think in a few more years, she'll be even more stunning than she is now but I do believe she is ready to work in the industry right here and now. I'm such a Tahnee fan and am hurting my fingers from crossing them so hard hoping she continues to work and get big jobs.

Here's to hoping, Tahnee!

UK GIRLS DO IT BEST

Kimberly Wyatt has always been my favorite Doll in the Pussycat Dolls [sorry, Nicole. I still love Eden's Crush!] and she's been one of my favorite dancers even before becoming a Doll. Here she dances on some show called "Got To Dance" which airs in the UK. Not sure, nor do I care, what the show is about! All I know is that there's a Kim Wyatt performance.

The "break down" at the end is actually part of "Kiss and Tell," a song that will be featured on Kim's debut album! What? That's right! She's recording solo material! So excited for this. And while we're on the topic of things from the UK, here is the brand new video for Cheryl Cole's latest single "Parachute."

Long story short: I could do without it. By no means is it a bad music video but I just don't really like it all that much. Yes, Cheryl looks faboolicious, the fashion is hot, the dancing is entertaining but at the end of it all I'm left a little bored. Have I come to expect too much from music videos or is it I just expect something outrageously outrageous from Chezza?
